« on: January 23, 2017, 10:57:28 AM »
Is there anyone that knows howto connect, have information about the Sony 3348 pinout for cabling to SSL S29 for transport control from the SSL?

Thanks in advance! / Mattias

You need to find or make an interface card to convert the tach1 tach2 from the 3348 to tach and direction for the SSL.
From what I remember, the card came complete with a breakout harness that ended in 2 x 25 way D cons. I don, have the pinouts of these,
but I have found my cribsheet from when I made a cable from the 37D from Sony to IF box 25D....

Thanks walrus, much appreciated!

So if I want to use tach I would need an interface, but If I find a pinout for the 3348 I must be able to just get the transports running? Play/Stop...

YEs, you should be able to just hook up switch closures for transport control Only.
Just  found an old 3324 Product Information Manual, whcih shows the pinout of the Remote 1 connector, and I'm fairly sure the 3348 had the same pinout. I'll scan it when I'm back in work tomorrow.

Hi Mattias, Here are the scans from the manual. Sony just show switch closures to ground for transport control, rather than the buffered ones that SSL use.

Hope this helps....

I may have this info but need to find it. Trouble is, I recently went through a lot of my old SSL paperwork and have chucked some stuff which I didn't think was relevant anymore. Hopefully, this was not consigned to the bin!
I will let you know if or when I find it.

Thanks alot Jim!

I found what I think is the interface you were talking about walrus, its from Mytek called "Little Black box" its with 2 break out cables, but this is only needed if I need tach sense?

Sorry Mattias, I don't know about the Mytek.
From what I remember, we bought just the card kit from SSL and I put them in boxes. Think we had 2 of them at Whitfield Street.
All three studios were wired up for S29 standard, even in the Neve rooms, this meant any tape machine could go to any studio, especially the 3348's.
If you just want transport control from the SSL without computer mix control, then no, you don't need anything special.
If you want Tallys from the 3348 switch lights, then you will need to implement the level shifting ciruitry
