Non analog cabling in the console ... NO
« on: December 14, 2017, 02:51:49 AM »
Hi all
Just to say, I have seen quite a few consoles in my time which had non analog wiring in or around the patchbay.
This involved speaker, coax, digital, midi and data wiring actually soldered onto the existing SSL patchbays. Sometimes, AC mains cables were around the same area as well, although thankfully not actually wired to the patch. If these cables go to the patchbay, they will share the same grounding as the patchbays are linked to the frame and the whole lot is the console ground via the OBA (M6) ground bolt, sticking out of the connector panel which goes to the studio tech earth or is linked to the computer which then goes to the tech earth.

It is simple really so keep all that other stuff well away from the patchbay please otherwise, you may encounter some problems. All the SSL analog wiring should be kept completely separate from these other functions, whether they are in the console or even in the floor ducts.

At one point SSL had the mains wiring for the 693 (?) printer in the console which was not a good idea!
