Recapped Channel Not Getting to the Stereo Bus
« on: January 15, 2018, 04:36:08 AM »
Hi guys,

Just recapped our SSL 8064G+ and we're having a problem with about 12 channels scattered through out various buckets that are not passing audio. We're sending an oscillator through the channel and it's not being picked up by the stereo bus. We checked at the insert send and signal is passing. We engaged the dynamics & EQ and it didn't stop the signal. We had originally thought it may be a Logic card issue so we switched out the card with a fully functioning channel's Logic card and it still didn't work. Our console has Film Pans (that we also recapped) and we're assuming that they may be causing an issue, just don't know how or where to check if it is.

Anyone have some advice?

Hey Josh-

Someone will probably chime in with some better/more specific diagnostic ideas than me.

I'd say first, have you double checked polarity on all the new caps?

Are all the channels giving you trouble in the same area in the signal chain?  Are you getting signal at the direct output/or in the group outs/float to groups?

Check group and VCA output cards, double check fader ribbons

We're definitely double & triple checking polarity as we go, so far so good. The channels are having different problems, there's about 6 channels not getting to the Stereo Bus. About 3 are getting to the Insert Send, non to the Group Output or its own Group. We're going through the channels and trying out new VCA & Group Amp cards.

Appreciate the help!

I'd probably scope backwards from the large Fader buffer (located on the Mic/Line Card)

Definitely try and swap cards to find out where the problem is, then narrow in with a scope
