Desoldering Switches
« on: March 08, 2018, 10:53:07 AM »
Hi all,

I am looking into replacing most of the switches on the motherboard of a 6000 G channelstrip.

I was hoping I would be able to lift the faceplate to clear  the pushbuttons and leds, and then  angle it away from the motherboard to get to the switches, but it serms to be held back by something more than the ten obvious screws on the back of the motherboard pcb.

Has anyone got a good way of doing it?

Johan

Hi there,

You shouldn't have to remove the front panel to replace the switches. I've replaced hundreds of switches, and I've found a good desoldering tool such as the Hakko 808 or newer FR-300 to be essential. Be careful taking out the switches, as there's traces on the component side of the motherboard that are delicate and no fun to repair.

Good Luck,
Chris
