Hook up headphones for mix reference
« on: September 23, 2019, 07:42:44 PM »
Anyone know a good way to set up a pair of headphones that I can reference mixes on?

Tried running through a multi but it sounded very bass heavy all of sudden not much top, is this an impedance issue? Also tried running through the OTHER multitrack return and had the same issue.

Multitrack returns

Hi
Not properly sure about your problem with headphone mixes but what I can say is that both multitrack returns are linked on the older SSL consoles at least.
They arrive at the console on DL's 11 and 12 (24 or up to 32 balanced channels each), are wired to the patch row C (half normalled to row D, Line inputs) and are linked to patchrow J which is half normalled below to the Tape Monitor inputs.

Therefore, the signal on both the multitrack return signals to the patchbay line and tape monitor inputs is the same.

Not sure if this helps at all but it does explain something about the multitrack returns. I will post something soon detailing all the SSL patch to DL's and Bicc wiring.
