4K,6K,8K Series / Re: Another Solo Problem SOLVED!
« Last post by tlmaen on June 14, 2026, 11:18:19 AM »
Okay,
it turned out that the problem occurred when not all buckets were switched on.
Only 24 channels were active, the remaining channels were switched off.

With 24 channels active and "Solo Isolate" enabled for channels 41–48 and 49–45, the solo function worked perfectly.
Is this normal, or is it something that should be investigated further?

Thanks,
Tilmann

4K,6K,8K Series / Another Solo Problem SOLVED!
« Last post by tlmaen on June 12, 2026, 08:33:58 PM »
Hello,
I was working on a 4072 G+ at another studio and noticed that a single channel does not mute the other channels (Cut) when the LF Solo switch is engaged,
nor do the Cut lights illuminate.
If a second channel is also switched to Solo, all other channels are muted and the Cut lights do light up.
Same behaviour on all Channels.

Today I recapped almost the whole Center Section (all Cards but the top four Cards).
The Bottom Logic Card with the Ribbon Cables attached looks fine.

Any ideas where to look?

Thanks,
Tilmann

Hi

Studio tech of some years.
Lots of experience with SSL E/G/G+  4/6/8K variants. More recently I've installed Duality and Origin consoles.
Also worked on consoles that weren't SSLs (Neve, Studer, EMT, Amek, Trident Etc.)

Installed desks in many studios (Townhouse, RAK, Point Blank, Mayfair, Olympic, Soho Sound Kitchen, Echo Zoo and many more)

Can provide patchbay systems. Both static and "Portable"

Portable systems allow you to pack up your studio, relocate and set back up again in a fraction of the time it normally takes.

Hi Eddie

Can I grab a copy of the Ultimation PDF please?

Been working on a desk recently that is Ultimation (First time in about 20 years) , and I don't have access to the manual when I'm offsite.

Cheers

Ah great.

Thanks for the pointers.
I kinda ran out of time trying to trace the signal.
Going back on Tues to have another look.

Now I'm better armed.

Thanks

Been through this trauma before.

Most of the issues were because of the E03 multiplexer card. IC T23 (4016) and IC T24 (TL084).
In addition, on the E354 VCA card, IC 11 (4081) and IC 9 (4001).

The cut signal goes through these components. If I recall, the VCA group cuts are generated within the computer. They are then sent back down the channel's data lines, and via these cards and ICs.

Anthony.

4K,6K,8K Series / Ultimation VCA Group Solo/Cut weirdness
« Last post by BLZProductions on June 10, 2026, 09:40:35 AM »
Hi

I was out at a client's yesterday trying to get their Ultimation working.
Initial problem was missing 5V on the Analogue supply to the Fader busboards.
Turned out to be a blown fuse on the Ultimation power distribution board caused by the Zener going almost short.
Got that up and running and everything looked OK. Motors and VCA modes looking OK.

However...
Noticed about 8 channels were not responding to SOLO/CUTs from the VCA groups (All working find from channel SOLO/CUTs)
Put the channel on an extender... and the fault goes away. In the desk fault... out of desk no fault.
Managed to pin the issue down to the logic card, but then ran out of time.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Ok, so I guess im on the hunt for 8 ultimation/vca cards  ::)

I wonder if is it easy to setup the SSL computer for additional 8 channels?

For an Ultimation console, regardless of whether you use Motors on or off you will need Moving Fader/VCA cards, as this allows audio to pass thru the fader.

Thanks guys, that’s very helpful.

Just to clarify one point: I usually run my console with the motors turned off.

In that case, would I still need the Moving Fader/VCA cards in the E-series modules, or could they work normally with the standard VCA cards when the motors are not being used?

Thanks again for the help.
