SSL Duality Noise
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:07:35 PM »
Hello :

We bought the 96 CH Duality from former Tape Studio Edinburgh and registered it at SSL ( it was not registered before)

The previous owners confirmed that everything was OK with the desk and that is was de-commisioned by SSL, a year ago.

We installed it and after some hours , the analog powersupply from the main section broke…

As we installed just 72 CH and not 96 , we replaced the analog powersupply with that of the bucket of ch 73-96 ( as we installed just 72 CH and keep the rest for spare)

Everything seems to work , however , the middle heatsink of the mainsection gets very hot , does it need another calibration than that is is placed in a non main-section backet , we removed from bucket 73-96 and now putted it in the main section.

When we put up just the desk , without any convertors or without any channels active , there is  already some noise coming up , it dissapears and comes back when we touch the volume control.
After some time , the noise becomes louder. And stays. sometimes it drops , but comes back quickly.

After a while , there is more  noise on the left masterbus than on the right…we see it even in the ledmeter of Mix A left and also on the master meter left.

Selecting mixbus A in the MIX gives more noise than mixbus B or C. When we engage insert on Mixbus C , there is even more noise

Also BUS 19  ledbar is reading out signal without being send signal to it , it is all the time at  minus 12  on the meter without signal send to it, even with the mastervolume closed , it reads that level...

We power up the desk in 1 time  on 1 poweroutlet. Is that right?

Are we doing something wrong , is it calibration or is someting broke?
Thanks for any help.

Kind Regards
