Hi Jim

Thanks for the response.
I'm based in the UK (East Sussex), but up and down to London like a yoyo of late. Ha!

SP meaning Spare makes a a lot of sense. I'll see if I can work out what's what on my next visit to the client.

Funky Junk are still going. Not doing so much of the desk refurbs these days as it's not so cost effective these days, which is a shame as the E/G series are great desks and not too difficult to get back up to their original glory. Just takes a fair bit of time, patience, recapping, and switch cleaning.

I'll check out your FB page, and will Email directly if I get stuck again.

Cheers

Bob

Hi BLZ (Bob) again.

Ta for your response. Luckily enough, I have a test jig for wiring stuff which has a DL 32 pair socket connector wired to most other connectors (plus some adaptors for edacs and 25 way D connectors) so it is easier for me as I do this a lot. The inside of this box looks pants for now but does the job. I must reserve some time to change and tidy it up somewhat!

If you see the picture just click on the IMG 1085 image rather than the picture. Otherwise the picture will be too large to see. Clicking on the OMG description will just show the picture on your computer without any scrolling up or down. I wish I could deal with this properly... argh.. Maybe someone can help advise me on this?

I remember Funky Junk in the UK (now closed I think) and probably know some of the techs there.

If you need some help, just ask me directly on an email and I will answer, rather than here as I don't look at this much.

I will try to post some SSL DL pinouts on here soon but am having iMac computer problems right now and need to find various items. I have a blank 96 way DL pinout for a plug plus others for the centre section connectors which are NOT lists and just wiring friendly views.

Years ago, I put loads of pictures on here but some hacker got in and deleted all of them (as others will know). It will take me some time to get those sorted again so bear with me.

Meanwhile, look at my jimlassenwiring Facebook page for some ideas of SSL wiring. It needs updating from years ago. Still working on Instagram posts plus my own website (the host supplier went bust so I need to build it again from nothing!). So bloody annoyed with all these things going wrong and I need to get on with my life of course. Too many so called aocial media platforms these days to deal with (bring back the simple phone box with none of this crap going on ... argh!).

Again, hope this helps and regards from Jim Lassen in Maidenhead in the UK.

4K,6K,8K Series / 6K pinouts. Sp equals spare!

Hi BLZ (where are you based by the way as it's not shown on this forum)?

This should really be in the wiring menu and I am the moderator on there.

DL 33 (along with DL 31 and 32) had different pinouts at various times although the main functions are normally the same. For DL 33 this is the first 26 circuits with the last 6 possibly being different.
DL 32 is the stereo 2 track replays and records, also with some other stuff further down the connector at times.
DL 31 is rarely used these days but does have some useful functions as well.

I have several pictorial wiring friendly pinouts (as oppose to just lists!) of these (4 and 6K plus G series) but they do vary between consoles over time and how the consoles developed.

To help answer your question, any wires labelled Sp ... are actually SPARES and would probably end up at one of the two 104 way MRAC connectors at the 651 which could be wired to some of the spare Highland (now EAO) switches futher down the unit. These should be found on the M1 and M2 connector ponouts but I haven't got time to look them up now, sorry.

If other labelled wires state Z01 and Z02, these are red light and alternative switch functions and are probably 2 pins (not 3) on a DL which go to an external relay box (not supplied by SSL years ago).

Hope this helps and get back to me directly if required as I don't look at this website much these days apart from once a week perhaps.

Regards from Jim Lassen, based in the UK.

OK... have a bit of a head scratcher...

I have three wires going to DL33 that are marked SP41, 42, 43

Was thinking switch closures maybe, but can't find them anywhere.

Any idea what "SP" refers to?

Hi Jim

Thanks for the reply.
I'm currently going through and buzzing stuff out. Found most of the stuff I need and making DL list for the client.
I've worked on a lot of these desks (Refurbed them for Funky Junk a while back), but don't seem to have retained a DL list along the way (Silly I know)

If I get stuck, I'll give you a shout.

Thanks

Bob

Hey CH. Glad to see you here.

Hi All.

Last year I was involved in a project where we were supposed to install 2 SSLs. The project never became a reality but unfortunately I had already ordered these power supplies. There is a pretty long wait for an Atomic power supply so a few months back two power supplies showed up at my door. One supply has already been sold but I have one left now.

They are brand new and not unboxed. It is the newest edition of the S1.

More info here:
https://www.atomicinstrument.com/shop/atomic-instrument-s1

The Atomic S1 can power up to 64 channels of SSL. If you have a console with VU meters the 250V rail is unused / not connected therefore you can still use this Power Supply.

I notified Misty Druce that I was going to sell the power supplies, so she can confirm and answer any technical questions you might have.
Feel free to get in contact! I will ship anywhere in the world using UPS.

Price 6.000 USD (so save 800 usd, VAT and import charges etc).

Brand new!!! And Clearmountain has it. That should say it all.
Located in Copenhagen Denmark (local pickup available too).

Feel free to get in touch!!!

Hi. I am Jim Lassen in the UK, the wiring moderator on here and I know alot about the SSL 4 and 6K console wiring. I also worked at SSL for 7 years (1980-87) in the early days.
I am currently having problems with my newer iMac computer at the moment but can help you out to some extent.
In which Country are you based and you are welcome to call me on Whatsapp so I can guide you through this.

For now, I can state that:
DL33 is almost the same as a 4k with the echo returns and sends, LS stuff and cue feeds using up about the first 26 circuits of the DL.
DL32 is always the stereo sends and returns for the first 20 circuits but the 6K has the 4 track record and replay on there as well.
DL31 is rarely used on a 4K but on a 6K has the 8 track rec and replay on the first 16 circuits plus Disc, Prog L,R and Mono and VTR and Air on.
More details to follow ideally but I can't seem to do a screenshoot of the many pinouts I have at the moment which are all wiring views of the rear of a DL plug to help with wiring installation which is what I do!

The best thing to do is to unscrew those 3 DL's (which are secured by M3 x 10 pozi pan screws) drop them down a bit and read the labels which mostly refer to the patchbay jack positions. For example if the white sticky label states N37, that means it is patchbay N/P and is jack 37 on row N (the top row).
The Alternative speaker and redlight relay contacts (normally 2 pins) may be on any one of these 3 DL connectors, along with the Listen Mics (1 or 2) so, every console (4 or 6K) can be different. The listen mics will be refered to the patchbay jack points and are half normalled into the 651 Compressor cards (82E33?) but the red light and alt relay console connectors will have labels which are Z01 and Z02 for example which come from one of the 104 way Mrac (M1 or M2) connectors at the centre section 651.

Hope this helps for now and get back to me. My website is down and being re-constructed but the email and mobile phone details are correct.

Check out my Facebook wiring page with some examples of some of this wiring stuff and get back to me.

Hi

Trying to commission a 6000E that has a 4000E tech manual, with no DL connector list/Pinouts.

I've managed to get my hands on most of the missing info, plus I already had most of the schematic info and ribbon info, but I'm still short of the 6K DL connector summary, most importantly for the 688/651 related IO.
688 group/tape connections, ABC inserts. 651 distro etc.etc.

If anyone has these, please could they post to the forum, as buzzing it all out will be a PITA to be sure.

Cheers
