Post by: Matt Sartori on March 14, 2019, 05:40:08 PM
Does Anyone remember if they are 3.5mm or 4mm?

I have lost mine, what do you guys use normally?

They are not M4, nearer M5 but not that.
I think they are a old imperial thread size maybe 2BA or something.

Give Keith at Recycled Audio a call.

The ones I have are a perfect 10-32. Same as a standard rack screw. (not to be confused with the rack screws/rack rails used by SSL).
Title: SSL module removal fittings and other BA screws on the SSL.

Most of the SSL 4 and 6K build used Imperial BA sizes and not metric versions. I think the only exception to this is the small screws used to secure the fader facia plate to the P&G faders which could be 2mm (unless they are 8BA?).

From memory the module and 651 removal fittings were 2BA bolts with a Sifam knob on top.

The screws holding the channels, meter panels and Bargarphs in place were 4BA (5/16ths of an inch for the first two and 1" for the Bargraphs). The screws for the various PCB's  (like 35 echo cards) on the centre section (651) and 682 panels  (using 17 tape remote cards) were 6BA, mostly secured to a small custom aluminium block. Excuse me if my memory fades as I am just trying to remember this stuff from nearly 40 years ago and I don't have an SSL any more to enable me to check on this.

The fittings holding the frame sections together were 6.32 taptites but Metric 3.5mm screws would do the job as I have found out.

The screws used in the SSL patchbay were 0BA, the same size as Metric M6 screws. These were also used in the copper earthing bars which ran throughout the console towards the installation connector panel ending in a 0BA (or M6) stud for earthing purposes.

Only from the 9K consoles onwards did SSL use metric fastenings as far as I remember apart from the 5K consoles which started earlier about 1984-5?

Hope this helps.
