Metering gone mad
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:32:59 AM »
Hi guys,

Tech was in today and this started happening... it happens in all modes, VCA, PPM and VCA to meters. It is global.

Any thoughts?

Stefan this might be the controller card (or meter distribution card) on the back of the console.
I would start by recapping it. and also I would recap the PSU that provides the 250VDC to the meters: some console have it built in (like mine) others have a separate chassis for that

BE VERY CAREFUL 250VDC CAN BE LETHAL

Better ask your tech to do it...

Let us know how you get on with it!

Mattia.

Hi Mattia,

Yes my tech has taken away the 2 small cards off the meter distro board. He'll inspect and repair them, no rocket science going on there apparently.

Thanks,
Stef.

Just following this up..

Meters are now fixed. It was the 2 transistors on the CF82E75 board.

All good.

Stef.

GOOD news!!
is there any chance you could tell us which transistors they were by referring to diagram?
so next time something like this happens we will already know what to look for!
thank you.

Mattia.

Here's a pic of the board.

It's the 2 transistors that are surrounded by the heat sinks. On the right hand side of the pic... (Actually the top left of the card as the pic is upside down)

ok they look like regulators or something, one looks like TR3 but I can't see the other....can you confirm what it is?
I see if I have a schematic and then post it for future references.

interesting...I thought the plasmas were getting the 263 volts only..what is that 83V doing? is that a IDLE bias or something like that?

Hey guys, so following-up on this thread as I'm having a similar issue. Kinda a newbie when it comes to electrical engineering. Do you think as a newbie, I would be able to remove and replace TR 4 & 5? Could anyone point me in the correct direction for ordering replacement transistors? I am aware of the high voltage and so any feed back from you guys would be appreciated!

That are two different (PNP/NPN) transistors. TR4 is a TIP152, TR5 is a TIP127. TIP127 seems to be a bit harder to find. rs-online.com seems to have them. Check the common distributors in your country. You should only change them yourself if you know what you're doing or you could do harm to your console or even worse to yourself. The plasma stuff is nothing to be kidding with.

Greetings,
Martin

Just wanted to post this updated schematic on the 75 card. TR4 and TR5 are both TIP150 in the later revisions.

The HA2-2645-5 op-amps have been troublesome for me and I recommend having these on hand. When they start to go the meters can start to have dim or missing segments. I strongly recommend anyone who plans to have these meters working to grab the hard to find parts like these so you can keep your meters going for years.
