Brown 02's and Black 202's, Pots.
« on: March 06, 2013, 09:45:32 PM »
I was told that my console had all Brown EQs, but when I pulled some strips recently, I discovered that I have both black and brown EQ. The weird thing is, that all of the Potentiometers are for the Brown EQ.

I would like to gain the full functionality of these EQs, by replacing these with the correct pots, but are there any other reasons I should do this?

How will this effect the sound?

i'm sure i'm not the only one who got this email today - recycled audio is having filter pots made:
(also good news about the LEDs!)

Hi,

We try not to bug people with circulars, but we have a few console
related things going on and we thought that people may want to know
about them or get involved.

Not sure if you are interested but we are thinking of getting some SSL
pots re-manufactured and we have finally persuaded Clarostat to do it
for us. These pots are extremely expensive even with large minimum
order quantities so we are taking pre-orders at just above cost price
to help get the numbers up and bring the price down a little. The
first ones we are considering are the filter pots because the switches
on these fail. If you are interested prices could be around £33 each
for the 12TKHLBQ (LF Filter) and £26 for the 12SHBLBQ (HF Filter)
depending on exchange rates. Normal list prices for these are £49 and
£39 respectively.

If you would like to be part of this purchase or have other pot
requirements please let us know. We also sometimes have some used pots
available and these can be supplied tested, warrantied and even
selected for accurate tracking where necessary eg. when used as
monitor pots. However, this option is not available for the 2 pots
mentioned above.

On a slightly related subject you may be interested to read our latest
website update where we attempt to explain and iron out some of the
features and differences between the various versions of SSL EQ and
the implications of upgrading to other versions
http://www.recycledaudio.co.uk/buying_guide06information.php .

We felt the need to do this because we are receiving an unprecedented
number of similar emails on this subject following the release of our
4K racks. Of course, we are still happy to answer your emails if you
do have more questions!

Other SSL news, having looked long and hard at the situation with LED
36V lamp replacements, we are currently in talks with a manufacturer
about getting a solution with a target price of less than £2.00 per
lamp (mixed colours) and hopefully around £1.80 .

Best regards,

Kathy

his pots aren't broken, but are lacking the filter switches. (brown eqs don't have switchable filters).
those clarostat pots are very sturdy. i'm sure your aux send ones are totally fine, but the switches underneath sometimes get scratchy after all those years.
