Stems

How do you make the stems on the SSL 4000 so that the bus compressor behaves the same as with the full mix?

You are not getting answers because your question lacks detail, and is like 'how long is a peice of string.'

You will use final mix as key source. Use back buss as key input and print each stem. Maybe somebody else will chime in that does stems.

Clip6 can you explain a bit more of the process with the key input?  I have the same question as the original poster.

The ssl is a quad buss. Your two mix you hear is the front buss so use the rear buss patch points as the key while you listen/print the front buss. You'll patch your final mix into the rear buss as the key while you solo and build what you will print as a stem. The ssl manual might help. I think they explain the quad buss.

Thank you Clip this makes sense now. This is my first 4k so I am learning the different workflows.

Hey.

The more I think about it that's probably not the best way to do it but that's what forums are for.

Maybe someone will chime in that does it right. I don't do stems.

My clients don't pay me enough already so. Glad we started a thread on it.

HaHa I don't want to do them either but artists will ask.  Fortunately, my new 4K will have the new Tangerine system so I can recall if bigger moves are needed.  However, even if no changes many will want copy of the stems for other uses.

You've got 48 direct outs to make a simple stem pass, but the two mix feel will be an add on. Maybe someone will chime in.
