SSL6000 PSU Power up Advice???
« on: June 04, 2014, 11:02:33 PM »
Hi Guys,

So long story short, PSU sitting in machine room, broken, for years.... finally "Hey, see if you can get that thing going!"

No history, other than it "doesn't work right..."

I don't think I wanna just "plug it in..." but maybe I should?

Should I look for anything? Should I just plug it in and see what it does? What would you SSL gurus do if given a PSU that you were told didn't work, but had no idea the exact issue!!!???

Dont think you should plug it in

What is wrong with it? What happens if you turn it on without any load?  Every rail lits up? Could be something easy like bad connection on the regulator cards etc but IŽd recommend to have a tech look at what voltages etc is coming out of it before proceed and plug it in

You could do a visual inspection for any burnt wires.

Then maybe diode test the rectifiers +18V, -18V and +11v making sure no dead shorts are present.

Maybe pull all the regulator cards, and power the frame.. and check for smoke or anything unhappy.

You could then place each regulator card in the 48v rail position, I normally wire a multimeter over the output cap, tagging on the back of the PCB. And check each card in turn.
