Title: Bench Power Supply

Hey all,

Quick question. I have a JLM Audio Powerstation power supply that provides +/-18v and +11v. It has a common ground for the 18 and 11v rails.
Can I use this to power up a channel strip on the bench, or will there be an issue that the +11v is not +7v hung backwards off the +18v rail?

You may have issues, the beauty of the SSL method of making the Logic rail, is the regulator is working in the opposite direction.. as Al Smart suggested..

"the purpose of the 11v power line is to sink current from the 
17v rail yielding a logic voltage of 6-7v. (17v high 11v low). Most 
12v regulators would only 'reduce' to regulate"

Thanks. Seems efficiency is the main basis of the SSL design.
Otherwise you’d be dissipating a lot more energy.
Guess it would still work though...

I was wrong.
The 6.5v is needed to be hung off the 18v in this manner, else the regulators try to pull the 11.5v rail upwards as logic load increases!
