263V fail
« on: May 15, 2023, 09:22:55 PM »
Hi everyone!

Bargraphs stoped working and i found that there's missed 263V on the PSU side
Is it safe to use the console without 236V for 2-3 weeks wlile spare parts on the way to the studio?

Should be fine.

This is not the first time I have heard of the 250V module failing in the Atomic PSU. Lucky it is not an expensive fix.

Yes, it is actually much safer to use the console without the 263V!  ;D  (Writing as someone who has had far too many electric shocks off that horrible bargraph system...)

I'm very surprised to see that Atomic is using a $45 supply for the 250vdc section of the console.

Their units are not cheap! I have heard of other people having problems with their PSUs and plasma meters as a result of failure. :o

Not to pile on, BUT I paid $6K for the small console PS and one of the blades of the top exhaust fan broke off. I called and talked to one of the technical guys and he said they were having QC issues with the supplier and that they have changed vendors. Still have not seen a replacement yet. Very dissapointing.

In defence of Atomic, they are providing a product that comes with a large amount of consequential risk, so I don't see an issue with the price of the units.
What can be lost in this is the cost of development, even though there may only be $2000 worth of parts inside.

Generally I spend a few hundred hours a month on SSL developments, which is all my own unpaid time.
Sometimes things don't go as planned, and have had a few issues along the way.
As long as they are around to support their product now and in the future, then that is fine by me.

Anthony.

We have 5 Atomic Power Supplies on 4 SSL consoles. All with remote panels. So far, no problems. 2 of them, I modified to control SSL computer, SSL fader power supply & exhaust fan.
