Hi all,
can someone with access to an SL611 channel please confirm that the channel compressor release pot wiper really connects to pin23 (-5V) of the dynamics card?
I´m not trying to doubt Andy here, but he writes that he very vaguely remembers that the 0V is a mistype, and I would just like to know for sure.
Comparing to other schematics (the 4k stereo channel, various clones) they all have it connected to 0V. If it´s really connected to -5V in the 4k then it would be a pretty big deal for me.
I have two custom racked 82e10 cards here, where it was implemented differently (one has the compressor release pot wiper connected to 0V and the other to pin23 = -5V), and there is definitely a difference in sound. I´d just like to get it correct & the same for both channels.
To my ears at -5V it increases the decay portion of the sound, sounds more forward and pushy, thicker, with more urgency, in a good way. The release pot doesn´t really do much anymore from fast to slow settings, comparing to it being connected to 0V (behaves as you would expect). But in general the sound is a bit fatter at -5V.
So if anyone could check this with a meter on an original SL611 channel I would be very grateful!
