Title: What actually is an 'Ultimation Fader' ?
Post by: matt on March 18, 2014, 04:54:21 PM
As browsing through all the topics in this forum, I often stumble over terms that describe a piece of hardware with words, like 'Ultimation Fader'.

Since I own a 5K console with a G+ Computer and Ultimation I just found out, that the parts are probably different on different console models.
Someone asked if a 9K Ultimation fader could be used in a 4K console and such.
Another question was : how to clean an Ultimation fader.

May I ask to talk 'model / board numbers' in such cases ?

For example, this is what a channel fader on the 5K console looks like.
It's motorized, driven by Ultimation.
The model number is : SL518

Maybe it might make sense to open a 'hardware' section where we could collect all the differences of the consoles as well.

Thanks
Matt

Agree, a hardware section is the next step for the forum.

Currently working on a pictorial Computer card guide, and the different variables.

Add to that exploded diagrams with sources where to order the spare parts. For the entire console.

Hi,

I am preparing a Wiki project page for the SSL Computer page. The idea of this Wiki is to organize/structure all information and also attach relevant document/diagrams. In my opinion, information is only useful if it is organized and searchable.

Maybe we should use a similar approach for all the content of the forum, so we can organize and attach documents and diagrams related to the ssl consoles?

Cheers,

Artur

The 4K fader is much different physically from your 5K there.  The 4K and 5K are based on P&G product, similar to the GML.  The 9K fader is not ultimation, and it cannot be fit into anything else.  It is based on an ALPS fader.  Much lighter, much less power needed to move the whole magilla.
I can provide full 9K gatefold pics to the effort.

Uhhh ..... that's a hard one .... although I'd love to have this as well.
Were there ever any exploded diagrams provided by SSL ?

Totally agree - brilliant idea. Thx Artur

This would definitely lead to this site being 'the one stop' for SSL gear.
