Title: Handful of VCA cards not working(low output)
Post by: Kprellz on June 11, 2019, 01:00:57 AM
Hey friends! Just wanna thank everyone again for the insane amount of help I’ve gotten so far. We’re winding down our whole console recap and damn does this desk sound amazing. Not to mention everything works as it should. Wish I documented the journey better. Anyway here towards the end I’ve just got some small issues namely with a couple VCA 82e13 cards, even after recapping 1 of them is super noisy(just constant hiss when you bring the fader up) two I get nothing out of and like 3 of them are just super low output. I’ve check the opamps and all the caps, wondering if anyone has a good place to start? Definitely the vca card as I moved them around to make sure of it. Checked the Jfets they seem to work too. Not sure if there’s something I’m missing. Thanks again guys!

Also if anyone is interested in buying the dynamics cards from our desk(86 E series) send me a message with the way it’s set up we don’t use them. Just seeing what offers would be.

Thanks!

Run a test tone through the channel and follow it through the audio path, to pre VCA and then post. See where the hiss starts to appear.
I would have gone straight to the op amps in the audio path, but you’ve said you have checked (replaced?) them.

check for corrosion around capacitor pads/ traces.
this happens very frequently if the card had the old orange capacitors.
