TR Computer Not Responding
« on: January 08, 2024, 07:54:51 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Our Total Recall system is broken. It tries to load a Recall, and the console pauses for a minute or two trying to reach the computer, but the return on the display is "TR Computer Not Responding."

I don't have more than that at the moment. I'll verify data lines at the keyboard and at the TR card resistor array, and I'll verify the other obvious things (volt rails, connections, etc).

Assuming those are fine, would anyone share their experience? Have you had this problem? Where did you begin? What was your culprit? Any info will help.

I have three SSL computer here, all working perfect. They are easy to keep going! I do have all mine converted to Gotek drives though.

If it is not communicating with the TR computer, pull those cards out (it's a sandwich of two cards - 5 in total), check all ribbon connectors, and clean the edge connector. That is the primary point of failure for communication issues.

Anthony.

Yes please fill us in! I know the floppy issue is a major one, and I had thought a SS change might have been difficult.

Looks like the Gotek drives are a direct replacement - correct?

Yeah - here's hoping I find the problem :)

Doug seems you could figure this out as your the 480 guy right?

Seems you make am image of the ssl floppy then install on gotek. 3.5 from ssl is not special just factory sony? drive.

Then just replace. Gotek has great forum. Image software runs on pc side not mac.
