Weird TR graphics error **SOLVED**
« on: September 20, 2014, 01:08:11 PM »
Opened up Total Recall today, and it looked like this (bus switch 8 and expander release time looks weird).
It's the same on all the mono channels. Stereo channels look fine.

Has anyone seen this before?

(G+ computer, Ultimation.)

Power cycle the computer.. but it looks like a Ram issue.

I tried rebooting. Still the same.
RAM chips on the TR graphics card or the CPU motherboard?

Thanks in advance!

Solved!

Just to update this thread: The issue was in the 4116 ram on the RML CPU board 82e301 (in the middle of the TR sandwich) ic25-33. I started by switching the c25-32 for ic 33-40 then the Total Recall cpu would not boot.

Be aware that on the RGB graphic card these 4116 ram are also present x8. But our issue were only with the mono channel TR image and not the stereo channel TR image and therefore the graphic memory worked just fine.

So many thanks to sintech for being spot on as always!

This links explains what I think was our issue: Some bits were stuck but not en entire ram ic. It seems that 4116 ram are common to fail.

Great discovery! :)

Those are always a  b***h to spot! ;)

Did you test the ram or just swapped for new ICs until it worked?

Cheers,

Artur

Thanks. I just swapped the modules until it worked. The bad ram sectors are still there probably just in a position where the fault doesn't matter - or I might not have found out which fault they are resulting in with this new position. I will order 16 or 24 (8 for the HRG graphics card) new and change out all the 4116 ram.

Cheers,

Uffe

great work man! It's never too much to have some extra chips! :D I am glad you found the problem, that was a tricky one!
