HAPPY CHRISTMAS 2013 EVERYONE
« on: December 16, 2013, 04:41:42 PM »
Mattia Sartori and all the Moderators wish you a Happy, hopefully peaceful Christmas and a prosperous 2014.

Thanks for visiting this site, registering and expressing your views. This was started by Mattia Sartori in July 2012 and this time in December 2012 we had 123 topics, 700 posts with 89 members and 6465 views. A year later and we now (16th Dec) have 342 topics by 189 members, 2,663 posts and 55,235 views.

So, the membership has increased by 112%, topics by 178%, posts by 280% and views by a massive 754%. 20 or more people are now online every day, sometimes reaching 30 or more. (I hope I've got all my statistics correct!). For a specialised forum, these must be good figures, especially over a year.

2013 brought hope for a replacement SSL computer system and power supply by separate companies. Unfortunately, these have yet to properly materialise but, meanwhile, it got various forum members thinking and some have come up with their own plans for suitable replacements which has generated huge interest recently. A new community computer project menu has been set up by Mattia to express views on a computer replacement for the ancient SSL version which is long out of date and various members are working on this. One member has even modified a 5K supply for use on 4K consoles and others seem to have ideas as well.

Knowledge of the older SSL consoles continues to be an issue but, as more people join the forum, their know how helps others and we all learn. Dealers still sell consoles with little or no documentation and it's a shame that SSL are still not active in supporting these consoles nor contributing to the forum but I have a feeling that the vast expansive of knowledge gained by contributors should overcome most problems and also, in time, generate a more modern suitable replacement computer system, power supply and other equipment to keep these consoles working for a long time yet.

Meanwhile, a lot of people are buying smaller consoles (16 -24 channels) to use as a front end for DAW set ups. Many years ago, I was helping to extend consoles up from 24, 32 or 40 channels but these days, many larger versions are being cut down to 16 to 32 channels as new users need them for different purposes as the music industry, and it's technical requirements change.

This website has and will continue to help the SSL brand live on and there is proof out there that there is the expertise to make that happen. Hopefully, 2014 will witness some exciting new products, probably most of which may just be produced by the members of this forum!

Regards all and thank you Mattia for making this happen. Without your initial enthusiasm, there would be a lot of individuals in the world with many SSL technical problems to solve and no community support.

Thank you Jim for your kind words, your statistics are indeed correct and we all hope that they will double up next year.

A lot of things have happen over the last 12 months: a HUGE learning curve for me and I think for a lot of people here too.

It seems as if there are people out there who want their SSL to live on and perform well despite the years and this is the main fuel for this forum, so I think my initial idea has come to fruition to a lot of users.
I am very happy about this.

To you all I wish a FANTASTIC CHRISTMAS and a PROSPEROUS and BEAUTIFUL 2014 ROCK ON!

Mattia.

PS= just to be organized I am going to move this topic into the "sit back and relax" area, so we keep this part of the forum for things concerning with the forum itself.
