149 channel calibration information
« on: April 28, 2023, 03:53:16 AM »
Hi all.

Just working on a console for a friend. His is a bit of a mess. But we’re sorting it out.
Someone had modded a bunch of it.  Then passed away without leaving notes.
I’m almost solved on it. Now I’m at calibration time.
We have a mix of 149 and 291 going on.
I am reading the calibration manual and it only speaks of the 291. No mention of the 149.
Do any of you know what is expected at the insert out point, while using a test jig feeding a +4 signal in to the line of a 149?
The manual mentioned 0vu and trim to adjust. But as we know the 149 doesn’t have this trim available.
I’m assuming the expected level is the same as a 291 but I wanna be certain. Only because his channels are showing quite the difference.

Thanks in advance!

There is no calibration on a 149, unlike a 291.
Feed in +4dB to the line input, and you should get 0dB at the insert send.
Typically I have found that there is a 0.5dB drop.

Anthony.

Ok. So there’s definitely something a miss.
Thanks for the reply. I assumed as much. But wanted to be certain. Now I have to find out why the discrepancy. Fun! :)

Sorry to hear about your friend being in a mess as you stated and also the tech person passing away without leaving notes.

I can't help with various faults but can help with any wiring (DL's etc) which may be needed as I know all about that stuff so get in contact if this is useful information to you. I am based in Bucks in the UK but can deliver anywhere really.

Regards and good luck from Jim Lassen.
