VCA Card recapping trouble
« on: March 19, 2024, 05:30:00 PM »
Hi,
I recently recapped all of the VCA Cards and changed C9 from 10uf to 100uf.
After I did all of the Channels, about 10 cards stopped working or behaved very strange.
(The are distorted or have no signal alt all or have full signal without a chance to level it...)
I quadruple checked the values and orientation of the Caps.
Also checked and measured the traces. I sometimes soldered the caps on both sides of the Board.
I am quite experienced with recapping and soldering, but this time I have no clue...
Could it be the ICs on the Board? Or the VCA Itself?
Is there any place to start for trouble shooting?
I am lost right now...

Thanks,
Tilmann

The E13 VCA cards have some of the greatest failure rates of all the cards. Usually due to corroded traces, and given the age of your console, it would be common.
The corrosion can also affect surrounding components.
I have repaired many cracked solder joints as well, which can only be seen under a microscope. These cards generate a lot of heat with the VCA module.
