G-Series Computer trouble - help!
« on: March 25, 2013, 07:17:27 PM »
I need help!

OK, so here's a bummer - my Mix-Computer is missing the main processor card. While this is not new to me, the news I got today is that the card (which was in repair) never ran stable. I don't have to pay for it, but I'm not gonna get it back either.

The computer was originally equipped with the following processor:
"G-Series 4-100/2MBytes" (according to the console spec sheet)

Now, here's the thing - I'll probably get the new Dramastic mix-computer when it comes out, so I'm not really keen on spending a lot of money now for a replacement card. But - I do need the automation. And soon.

Question is, do I need a "4-100" card or can I also drop in a "490" card?

I read here, that the 490 card, with a memory upgrade, can handle G series software up to console sizes of 56 channels. (mine has 48). With a SASI-card, it can also run on 3,5" floppy drives.

Help with your knowledge!

Cheers,
Marc

Uh, broken SSL computer  :o

Basically 490 is just different processor than 4/100, a bit like there's difference between Pentium 2GHz and 2,4GHz processors or Pentium III and Pentum IV. There's probably some other differences as well but refering to the link you posted I bet it is drop in replacement. I recommend you to confirm this from Keith though.

p.s. If the processor card is "unfixable" I would love to have it if possible?

Hi Marc,

If you don't find a replacement here in Europe call Bruce at http://deskdoctor.com/, he is the best person in a position to help you and I'm sure he can quickly ship you a replacement card in a high priority package.

Cheers,

Artur

Nope - nothing yet. I might as well pre-order the Dramastic Computer...

Do you have a price for your console size already?
