SSL SMPTE wiring
« on: August 16, 2014, 01:20:14 AM »
For those of you who still need this, here is a schematic of an SSL patch showing the SMPTE wiring. I did this as a rough hand drawn layout in 2013 so excuse it's presentation!

It shows the 2 x D connectors, one 9 way D to the computer (S113E) and the 25 way D which was, at the time, earmarked for the Master Transport Selector 2 u box (S696?) which could control up to 3 tape machines, probably via an external synchroniser like the Adam Smith or Lynx version.

Both the D wiring layouts are rear wiring views and the patchbay positions are approximate as these changed in time at SSL but should be in the same format regardless of your console.

The red coloured wire is the hot (+) and the green is obviously the screen. The wires shown to and from the DL's could be wired to some of the multitrack DL's, 11,12, 21, 22, 41 and 42 but also to the centre section ones as well like 31 and 32.

The L shape between top and bottom jacks is a half normalled connection. Inserting a bantam in the bottom jack in this case breaks the feed from the top so that your plugged in patchcord now feeds somewhere else instead.

Hope this proves useful people. PS: Still selling new DL connectors if you need any!
