2022 Plans - 4016E?
« on: October 31, 2021, 05:30:14 AM »
I've got a lot of left over parts now, plus all the cards I've reverse engineered.

Been thinking about what to do, and might put together a 4016E frame for test purposes.

Chopped the old stand and trim for now. I can get the side panels laser cut locally - just need to find enough ISEP or a suitable alternative.

Anthony.

Hey Myke,

Maybe up to 40x lengths for an 8 wide bucket (325mm long), but could survive on much less. Just means I have to hack some less critical ones together. Any qty helps.

19" wide patch bucket lengths also if available (487mm).

Email me if you need.

Cheers,
Anthony.

Picked up this SL651E in sad condition. Not much left of it, but I think I can hack something together to make a functioning centre section.
Mainly to test out cards on the workbench, rather than using the console.

Getting a new front panel laser cut, and am looking at using NKK switches throughout, rather than the EAO. The NKK switches can be mounted direct on to the PCB, so all switch and lamp wiring resides there, with ribbon connectors to the backplane. All pots to be direct wired with use of header connectors.

Original condition

Wiring stripped back, headers installed.

Front panel for the SL651E arrived. All good and only one small error I can live with. Full points to anyone who can find it.

The switch PCB also arrived, but I made a significant mistake on the hole sizing for the switches, and will need to bin these and start again. Oh well, live and learn.

For now I can work on the connecting ribbon cables until the new PCB arrives.

Here's a picture of the front with the PCB loaded.

All those switch mounting holes are too small :( but I drilled out a few to see what the switches would look like.
There will be a black bezel around each switch bank to make them look more like the original EAO switches.

Frame together with minimal ISEP rails. I wish this stuff was more freely available.

The aluminium side panels are all cut locally and turned out really well. I had to manually countersink all the ISEP rail holes in these. 40 holes per panel.

It lives!

Sourcing the switch variants is difficult with the current supply issues for components.
Switching and status buses are working perfectly.
