Hey All.
Hope all is well with everyone!
One quick one here:
Wiring up a DL connector for the Headphone System.
Wondering, DL33 (on my console) has the Echo, Monitor amps, Mini amps, studio amps etc..
It also has a point that says Cans Stereo L and R, Cans 1 L Cans 1 R Cans 2 L Cans 2 R.
Are these 6 points pulled from the Cue stereo, cue 1 cue 2 cue 3 cue 4 pots on the channels? (Through the centre section masters)
Basically i want to connect to a Furman HP unit that has 6 inputs, 1 stereo and 4 singles.
This would be awesome if i can get The Stereo Cue to the Stereo input on the furman and then the Cue 1-4 to the Mono 1-4.
The last studio we built with this console, i just patched to make the headphones work... I want to hardwire it now.

To Clarify, Im confused at the labelling of the Connector, Stereo Cue, Fine i get that
but Cue 1 L and R? Cue 2 L and R? Those two dont make sense to me...

Figured it out.
Cue 1 L is Cue 1
Cue 1 R is Cue 2
Cue 2 L is Cue 3
Cue 2 R is Cue 4
at the patch point. There are stereo options that go to these from Quad to Cues etc. but can be treated as Single Mono Points.

Hi,
Not quite - Cans 1 is Aux 1 / Cue 1, and Cans 2 is Aux 2 / Cue 2.
So from the Aux 1 feed Cans 1 L & R will be the same (and mono of course). But when you feed "Quad to Cans" or "SLS to Cans" that will be in stereo.
If you've got a copy of the diagram T0651E.41 "Master Module Block Schematic 651E" it shows this pretty clearly, unfortunately its an A1 diagram so not easy to scan!

Crap! So, I will still have to patch to get aux 1-4 on to cans in individual mono paths?
Basically what i want to do is have aux 1-4 hit my furman at input 1-4 and the stereo one go to the furman stereo in.
Then the band can mix themselves as they have 5 pots for stereo and 1-4. . .

The auxes will all come out on one of the DLs, use those feeds.

Unfortunately there is cans, echo sends and that is all.
No other point can I get the aux.
I need echo for the verbs. So, I’m up to patching if I want it it seems. :(

I can't find any details in the manual on the connections from the patchbay to the external connectors - is this really not there or am I going mad??
It's a bit naff if it isn't there! (I'm allowed to say that since I was responsible for the manual updates at one time, and I specifically remember being asked if there was anything that should be in the manual that wasn't there, so it's sort of my fault!) But that said these, connections were often very customer specific.
My VAGUE memory is that this is right, the idea was that apart from the cans feeds the user would always want to patch auxs, they would want to have the option to select the aux feed to different outboard items for different projects.

Yeah. I took a pic of the DL Pages in my manuals. No aux connections other than cans and echo.
Cans share pic from my phone. Not valid.

The connections on DL33 would appear to mirror the feeds to the 621 Producer's panel, with Stereo Cue, Aux 1(mono), Aux 2(mono), and Quad Bus LF/RF.. Patching in a more elaborate headphone system is inevitable. Around here, we have the Mytek Private Q system, with it's 8 mono and 2 stereo inputs, all 12 channels coming up to separate user option patch points. As such, the engineers here are free to derive headphone mixes from the cues, tape returns or even the small fader sends to the routing matrix, with the small fader in Input mode. Plenty of ways to skin this cat.

Thats exactly where im looking DL 33.
I cant find the Aux's to hardwire to the Headphones other than the Cue stereo Cue 1 LR Cue 2 LR. Or Echos

Image is empty. Below the auxes on the patchbay, are there not normalled jacks that go somewhere? I haven't looked at any of that stuff in a long time.

That’s what I’m assuming relates to cue stereo and cue 1-4 but someone above says no?
I’m super confused. Because the DL says it’s cans. Which I assumed was the same feed.

I suggest spending a bit of time with a continuity tester (multimeter) buzzing out those signal paths. There is normalling below the cues, it must go somewhere.

I remember Chris Jenkins trying (and struggling) to persuade anyone who would listen that there should be a 3.5mm headphone jack on the producers panel alongside the 6.35mm jacks ;D Ahhh...different times...

It might be that the aux outs only go to the patchbay, and the normalised jacks only go back to the 651 (for the cans feeds), it could have been assumed that you'd have a range of FX device inputs wired to spare jacks on the patchbay and that you'd just patch across to them as needed.
Personally at this point I'd have a look under the patchbay! Yes it's a bit of a pig to get in there, but once you're in it should be fairly obvious.
I'm still annoyed that I can't find this information in the manual...

So, I think im going to connect my DL from the Cans positions and hope that its directly reflective of the aux st & 1-4. If not i can patch in to that point from the patch points of those. I think it is, based on looking over the drawings... The Names you guys use over there leads to the confusion over here i think :)
My biggest pet peeve on this board(when training new engineers) is the 'Multitrack send' label. Man they cant get their head around that... Some times i second guess myself...

Switchcraft EH35MMSSC connector to a BB DRV134 always does the trick for me.
I usually mount the connector to a "D" type XLR hole on the rental bay of the credenza, then tap some power from a unused power supply jack to power the BB chip. The BB chip and associated circuitry is EASILY built on one of those tiny project boards from RatShack.
Pretty easy 1/2 day project when you finally get sick of listening to rap songs cranked up through a tinny iPhone speaker.
