Title: CML Audio: Re-engineering project: The making of a 24 channel 6000

The Mixer Men of CML Audio have started work on re-sizing a large console so as to make it into a 24 channel console.

Where necessary the project will be using boards and assemblies from our family of SSL related products, details of which have been posted elsewhere on this forum. The 688 panel from the large donor console has been allocated to another project, so we are fitting a bus mix panel that we have designed for the A, B & C buses. This is the second console that will be using our ABC Panel, the first was delivered to a customer at the end of 2014.

I'll be posting updates here to show how the project progresses. Today has been a split activity day for Craig, with him working on wiring and meter service, cleaning the meters and changing the illumination. He took a couple of photos showing "before" and "after" on one of the meters he worked on. The old LED clusters have failures, colour mismatch and intensity mismatch, so the best solution is to replace with new illumination.

Ultra cool work, are those custom A,B,C summing amps?

With the exception of the VU meter cards mounted on the meters, all the schematics & PCBs for the ABC panel have been designed by me. Over the years I have created a range of building-block sub-cards (input amps, output amps, mix amps, meter drivers, etc) and it is these that have been used to create the ABC panel. So in answer to the mix amp question, yes, they are custom.

I think the point is to remove a lot of the FET bloat from the original 688 design and purpose the A-B-C summing for more modern uses.  Way too much going on in the original 688 that is simply not needed now.  Or needed then, now that I think about it. . .
