External Monitoring Selectors CF82E28

Hi Boys and Girls,
on our 4K E-series we now and then have a loud thunder and spikes on the speakers.
It comes in from after the Quad Compressor that's for sure.
Our console has CF82E28 cards. My spare cards are 82e338d0888.
They look totally different and dont work at all in our console.
Does anyone knows to what console they belongto? Or any more info on this??

well, at first glance, it appears that the control of the cards is entirely different. The E28 card uses standard control line logic, ie hardware logic. While the E388 has logic chips on it that seem more in line with serial data control.

It also has 6 opamps that would make me suspect it may be set up for surround, ie 5.1. Pure speculation on that.

but I do not KNOW any of the actual provenance of the card.

Our 4000G series console have 388 card for ext. mon. switching. (with FilmPan).

Hi Mikel,

The 82e338 is the replacement one due to the 82e28 became obsolete.  82e338 has the exactly the same functions as 28 card.
And the 338 card should work on old E consoles.

Are you sure that the 28 card is broken?
I'd rather swap the 82E27 (Compressor Time Constants / Auto Fade) first, if the noise come out from all the quad outputs (i.e. not only one ch. like LF).  The 27 card supplies +/- 15V for the VCA modules on the 82e26 cards.  If you don't have 27 card, try to change the 7815 / 7915 regulator IC's.

thank you for this info.
I'll go in and try the 338 cards again, since you tell me these are compatible with E28.
Perhaps my 2 spare cards are also broken...
