Anybody know the remedy for keys going out on a G+ Series Keyboard? Multiple keys are failing, the foam padding between the actuator and PCB has disintegrated and falling apart. Paper towels have brought a couple back to life but I would like to find a more permament, let DIY, solution. Thanks

Last night I got an keyboard error message on my display and the computer is rebooting on it's on, also the f-key light is blinking.

Pulled keyboard ribbon and that stopped the computer from rebooting so it must be the keyboard. Searching forums today.

I have a 99' G+.

Comments please.

If you have a remote keyboard, you can transplant all the keys, and some PCB's

Hey Sintech.

Seems it's rebooting even with keyboard unplugged.

This computer has been rock solid. Pulled clock card because battery leaked now this.

Just brought the board with the led boot lights to a tech to reflow all joints and clean chip legs check caps.

I guess if all else fails I could send the board to Keith.

Man what are we going to do when we lose all these ex-ssl techs from around the world?

You might have shaken some cards loose when you got under the hood and pulled the card with the battery. First thing I would do is pull all the cards and clean the edge connections with an eraser and firmly reseat . See if that changes anything. Also there is a keyboard diagnostic in the comp that you could go through to isolate which keys are failing(if any) . A lot of times the comp is suffering from an internal problem but is seems like it is keyboard related. From my understanding the g g+ keyboards are a lot less temperamental than the E.  Ahh The mysteries...

Hey.

Got the card back. One trace fixed.

Crashed again after 5 hr. session. I had already cleaned and reseated cards but crashed so I did it again.

Wonder if the edge connectors loose their hold/grip?

What temp you guys run your machine room at?

Cleaned heads with Q-Tip, reseated cards, new floppies.........all good now.

Side note floppies and controllers are not moded by SSL so easy to find replacements on Ebay.

Just to follow up with everyone on this topic. This was a hardware malfunction. The foam padding between the keys and PCB was breaking down. I found some small Felt pads with adhesive on the back at Home Depot (or local hardware store) that fit perfectly. I was able to remove the metallic pad that had been glued to the old Foam, clean the key up and carefully glue the pad back onto the felt. Worked like a charm. A little tedious but better than buying new keys. Cheers
