Hi all, I'm new to the forum, lots of great info on here and I'm excited to be part of the community. I hope that this is the right area to post something like this, but I'm looking for a SSL tech to service my console (SSL4064G+). I have a bucket of 8 that's out; cuts flicker on/off and flash while in the VCA TR stage (read a thread about this problem, but without any success). The TR is also not functioning correctly, and in a perfect world I'd love to get the VCA faders re-calibrated.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Hi Billy,

where is the faulty bucket, very left or very right, or somewhere in the middle of the console?
If the faulty bucket is very left (or right), remove the i/o modules and check the S9E 10way ribbon cable on the lower bus card.  The S9E bridges the TR MPX signals including MPX enable (VCA / TR switching) among the bus card.

If the faulty bucket is somewhere in the middle, as a start, check the supply voltage (+/- 18v, +11) OF THAT BUCKET using the module extender.

The bucket is in the middle of the board and I'm currently waiting on a module extender from Recycled Audio. Soon as it arrives I will definitely check the voltage supply of that bucket. For what it's worth I'll take a video of the problem to see if anyone has experienced this same problem. Again thanks, any help is greatly appreciated!

OK, the bucket is in the middle of the console.  I think yo can try followings without extender;

Take out all the modules from the faulty bucket.
Remove a working module from another bucket and insert it.
See if CUT lamp starts flashing or not.

Appreciate the suggestion! I tried emptying the bucket and swapped in a functioning channel from another bucket, but the cuts are still an issue. I just want to try and add as much detail as I can and mention that while the cuts flicker intermittently, occasionally the cuts will just stay lit, as if a cut has been toggled on. While the cut light is on, the channel acts as if the cut has actually been toggled on. Whatever is causing this is also definitely connected to TR, because even when no cuts are flashing/on, starting total recall causes the cuts to flash with the fader status lights (the ones that help to recall a fader level).

There seems to be something wrong with the physical position , the bucket, not the modules, doesn't it?

May I suggest that you swap the S14E 50way ribbon connector between the good bucket and the bad bucket?  You can do this either on the belly panel of the console OR at the CPU cage.  DO NOT swap the connectors at the BOTH end of S14E, just swap one end.
If the symptom moves to the other bucket, you need to look at the CPU cage then.

In addition, You can check the supply voltage if your console is mechanical VU meter version.  Open the back panel or remove the VU meter panel of the bad bucket.  See the picture.
