Knob cap sizes
« on: March 17, 2023, 01:51:38 AM »
Hey all!

Quick Q.

What’s the knob cap size used on the G stepped preamps Pots?
I think the E and the rest of the knobs use the 10mm?

Thanks!

11mm.
Same as anything that has a rotary switch on it (Ratio, Attack, Release on the 651, ABC for 6K consoles etc)
The shaft on the rotary switches is slightly larger, so they had to go up one size.

That's right.
Majority are 10mm, with some 11mm as mentioned.
15mm for pan and SLS / Cues / OSC freq & level
21mm for the main monitor.

Anthony.

SSL Knob cap sizes etc Jim L

Hi all

Don't get me started on this but when SSL went from Sfernice pots to Clarostat in the early 1980's the Sifam knobs and black front nuts changed as well and it was a challenge to find the right ones in the various carousel draws there at the time.

I might be a bit wrong on this but, this is how I recall it at the time:

Sfernice (probably wrong spelling) were the white ones and made in France I think with am 1/8" shaft and maybe 1/4" thread.

Clarostat were the blue pots, made in the USA with a ?mm shaft and also a metric thread.

Unusure of the exact details but they were different and the black SSL front nuts had different threads and the internal brass collets did not interchange between the two properly (imperial and metric).

As for the knob sizes, check out the Sifam info but I do recall 10 and 11mm knobs being used for most of the SSL stuff, along with the 15mm version for other stuff as well.

Will try to research this a bit more and get back here.

Hope this makes sense for now from Jim Lassen in the UK
