SSL 621 Producers Panel B1 24 way Bicc and DL 59 pinouts
« on: September 30, 2014, 02:26:07 AM »
In most of the older SSL consoles at least, whether they were fitted or not, SSL provided a loom for a 621 3u Producers Panel. This was B1, a 24 way rectangular Bicc connector (6 x 4 crimps) on a short loom which was almost always located in the patchbay area where the 621 would normally be fitted apart from when it was remote from the console via DL59.

This B1 Bicc connector had power, some duplicate circuits from the 651, such as talkback mic, cues and sometimes, other functions as well. Most of the wires were labelled X ...? which meant that they originated from within the console (probably via one of the 104 way 651 Mrac connectors) as opposed to the patchbay. Wires labelled Z ...? also originated from within the console, probably to/from a custom PCB located at the rear of the console.

A bit of history here: As the consoles got bigger (initially 24-40 to 72 and beyond) the number of patchbays increased. SSL originally planned for DL connectors up to 58 with DL 59 being the last one for the 621 panel. Over time, the patchbay got larger and so did the number of DL's involved (normally 4 per 1u of 96-112 jacks) so, DL 59 was overtaken by yet, even more user option (normally outboard) patchbays and the numbers became DL60 and above.

I also show a typical early pinout for DL 59 but, beware as they did change over the years.

Hope this helps from Jim Lassen (www.profcon.co.uk). Also on In most of the older SSL consoles at least, whether they were fitted or not, SSL provided a loom for a 621 3u Producers Panel. Some functions appeared in other DL's at different times and you can easily depin them and place them in another DL if required. For instance, the red light closure appears on this DL as do the Listen Mics  on occasions although they both appear on other centre section DL's (31 to 33) at different times. To save buying another DL (expensive even though I sell them), try moving these functions to another DL instead.
