Covering SSL consoles and scribble strip ident tape
« on: December 12, 2013, 12:51:54 AM »
Hi people

I've seen a lot of pictures of SSL consoles on this forum and wonder if you all cover your consoles when not in use.

Unless they are left switched on 24/7, you should ideally cover up some of the surface area to avoid dust getting in. The patchbay and faders are particularly exposed to this, The patchbay has holes and the faders have slots, both of which could have dust going into them. I don't have an SSL but I cover up my small Mackie mixers every day to avoid this. I have also noticed that schools and other places don't do this and wonder why not. Just put some sort of cover on to avoid problems later on.

Also, on the SSL fader scribble strip, I see some pictures of masking tape being used. Try white camera tape
instead which is easier to remove and doesn't show any marks on the strip afterwards.

Hope this helps and regards from Jim Lassen (www.profcon.co.uk). Also on FACEBOOK
