FS: SSL 4000 Test Jig
« on: July 02, 2022, 08:11:57 AM »
SSL 4000 Test Jig for sale.

This isn't an SSL Branded one, but it appears to be very well made with high quality.
I purchased it about 20 Years ago and was told it was in great working condition by
the seller. I never got the chance to use it and so it is sold as is as I have no way
to test it.  You need to make and connect a power supply to it.  I showed a tech friend
of mine the unit and he said making a power supply for this should be easy to do.
The power connector uses a Cinch Jones Male Connector so you would need to buy a female
one to make a power supply cable for it.

The Input Settings Switch positions are as follows (From Left to Right):

1) Mic
2) Line
3) Mix Amp
4) Mon Line
5) Slate
6) Insert

The Output Settings Switch positions are as follows From Left to Right:

1) Probe
2) Input
3) Mic
4) Insert
5) AFL Routing
6) Group Out
7) Meter
8) A Left
9) B Right
10)B Left
11)B Right
12)Left CUE
13)Right Cue
14)Aux 1
15)Aux 2
16)Aux 3
17)Aux 4

There is a Banana Plug for a prob under this Switch.

Knob to the Right of Meter Settings From Left to Right:

1) Tape
2) Rec Broadcast
3) Record & M Rec
4) Record Mix
5) Record and Mix
6) Group

There is a Pot labeled Fader Under this Switch.

On the Right Side of the Jig there are Adjustments and Test point Posts, 1 each for:

1) 10V Group Mute (Gp Mute)
2) 4V VCA Trim
3) 2V Dynamics Return (Dyn Return)
4) .5V VCA Group Fader (VCA GP Fader)

This SSL Jig uses the same SSL Extender (The one the SSL Channel Module plugs into)
that the SSL G series uses and which has a Switch on it.  This is almost identical to the one which is
supplied with each console extenders set. The G series SSL Schematics for their test Jig shows this switch.
I do not have this Extender as it got lost in a move and so it is NOT INCLUDED, but a standard one can be
modded with the added switch as this is what the Studio that made this SSL Jig had done.

This is all I know about this Jig. I don't know what studio or tech made it.

Asking $550 plus shipping for it.
Reasonable offers considered.

SSL 4000 Test Jig response

Mmm. A non SSL constructed test jig. SSL made them in a large diecast box with one PCB as I remember (I worked there from 1980-1987 and modified some of these).

As a professional wireman, I can see the effort put into this unit but I think it may only be worthwhile for a studio with a few SSL consoles to be honest with you.

Good luck with any sale though from Jim Lassen, based in the UK.
