Hi,
I have a SSL 4056 E/G with patch bays on the left and a producer's desk on the right. I would like to remove the producer's desk and reduce the frame to either 40 or 48 channels footprint.
Does the 4056 frame allow this without major modification to the metal structure?
Any help, pictures or insight will be greatly appreciated as I don't have the books in my possession.

Removing the producer desk is fairly straight forward. I am assuming your desk it laid put so that the last bucket is next to the producer desk?
if this is the case all you need to do is remove the BICC from under the 49-56 bay and cut them back on the patchbay, also remove all the VU meters (or plasmas) feeds.
Remove the 8 channels bucket and then shorten the metal work.
This is the tricky bit as the two metal bars that run along the console are threaded so you need to make sure that you either shorten those up and leave the thread on or cut them short and re do the thread.
Ultimately:
This is not something that should be attempted, you would need a specialist in to show you how it's done. you really don't want to start messing with the metal work and possibly compromise the mechanical stability of the console.

I just did it.
It's kinda easy. But a pain at the same time. You need the proper side panels to put it back on. So keep the producer desk in tact!

Thanks a lot for your response.
The producer's desk is next to the bucket of channels 49-56 but it's not the one with the patch bay. The bucket with the patch bay is located on the opposite side.
If I decide the keep the 59-56 ch bucket, do I still need to cut any metal when removing the producer's desk?
Not sure if I understood the thread situation and how it is as I have never looked inside the metal work.
If anyone has any pictures so I can see what they should look like after cutting will be great.

I will definitely keep the producer's desk intact should I be able to remove it.

Hey there,
I took possession of the console and had a chance to examine the frame in the producer's desk section. I noticed that the holes for the right stand are located right at the end of the producer's desk by the side panel.
I could not find any info anywhere about the way the frame and the crossbar works so I thought of asking if anyone knows how it would be possible to remove the producer's desk and have the stand installed somewhere in the last bucket (ch 48-56)
I appreciate the help.
