Title: Compressor attack mods

Wanted to start a thread about making changes to the channel compressor.

Was looking at the Brainworx SSL plug with attack mod added.

Would like to have more attack options(faster). Could put a small tweeker pot like the plug.

Hey Roy.

I think Andy Miller said it would be as easy as changing a few resisters. As for recall you just put a VR in place of the stock resister to change 3ms to 1 ms.

If you look at the 5000 series compressor it is closer to the 384 settings.

I would just like the mod on like 4 channels you could move the modules were you needed them but I would just use the set it and forget it.

Was watching jacquire king talk about how he moded his tg1/2254 to cut attack/release settings in half. So he could get 50ms on release.

IIRC, it's a capacitor that determines the timing of the compressor attack.  I was once noticing the fast attack being too fast (and distorting low frequencies more than normal), and this was fixed by replacing an aging (out of spec) cap.  I remember the technician asking if I wanted to go even slower, which I didn't.

Hi,
Yes first step is to switch out or make variable R19. If this doesn't make it fast enough you are into changing C5 and C6, but this will change the release time as well. I'd suggest see how you get on with just playing with R19 first!

  ;) One day, the trouble is that I have space in my workshop to make things these days!  ;D When it comes to spending time at the keyboard (after a day of sitting at the keyboard) or playing with power tools, the power tools keep winning...and the ever growing collection of stringed instruments...
