Anyone any idea how to connect an existing older SSL 11u rack computer system (via the 9 way S113E connector or on the patchbay) to a more modern Protools digital interface so the SSL computer can send and receive Timecode?
Just asking this on behalf of an associate. I just do wiring and don’t know the answers but maybe someone out there does as it must be a common problem these days.
Years ago, an analog tape machine could have the bass drum on channel 1 and SMPTE on channel 24 (or swopped around) but, with the Digital systems these days, that may have all changed so, please get back to me so we can all learn. Does the SMPTE come in or out of one of the 25 D connectors on an Avid box or from some where else (and what is the connector and pinout if so)?
This is somewhat urgent so any prompt replies would be appreciated.
Meanwhile, see my Facebook wiring page below for some of my cable wiring examples. I am redesigning my website from scratch and will post on here when it is ready.

Jim get a hold of the Alan Smart 2 tools manual it's all in there.

Thanks Clip6 (no idea what your real name is!).
Alan Smart has been a good friend of mine for many decades and we communicated just the other day. He is in Melbourne in Australia at the moment and, as I have just woken up for some strange reason at 6:30am, I will call him as it will be 4:30pm over there now.
I will report back on here if he tells me any useful info about SSL stuff.

Hello;
If they have Didi-Desgin Sync interface box, it has time code XLR input and outputs that need to be wired to a DB 9 connector that plugs into the smpte/time code card in the SSL computer. There might be time code XLR connectors on the back of the SSL computer which we have?

I think a ZX card from Bruce Millett would accomplish what you are after.
