Well,
I have just put down the phone with a journalist from the BBC who rang me as he is writing a piece on Colin Sanders and SSL.
He is trying to find some connections between artists and SSL boards in a way that his readers would find interesting, what I mean is " Artist XYZ could not complete his song until he used an SSL and after that XYZ song was created"
I know it's a long shot and perhaps not something we might want to talk about as much as discussing transistors and op-amps ;D
BUT
If you know of any leads or know of an article, a book or know someone that could be helpful let me know.
SSL is also involved in this and I think it would be a nice gesture to commemorate Colin Sanders for his contribution to the music industry.

Need to get in contact about other stuff here as you know but, please give my number and contact details to the BBC person as I can certainly help as I was there from 1980-87 and still know most of the designers and others who were there who could be useful for this. Most of them are not on this SSL forum site but I know most of their contact details. There is hardly anyone at SSL now who was there in the early days even though SSL have been contacted by the BBC person but I was there before hardly anyone else in 1980 so I am not sure how much SSL can help now with the BBC enquiry.
Most have left now but I am in contact with them and I could be an important point of contact for this to point him/her towards others and I also have some storys to tell about SSL history and making records etc.

Yes, Al Smart could also help with this as he is an experienced engineer with SSL's and is a good friend of mine some decades later.
Good that you two are nearby in Melborne, Oz. I think he joined SSL in the mid 1980's and became a service engineer before leaving to do his own thing.
We had many jams in the late 1980's and early 1990's as he is a talented guitarist as well (I still have the cassette tapes!). I am a drummer by the way! (just jim lassen on FB with a picture of me playing drums).
I hope your SSL re-build is now working fine and I was impressed with your reverse engineering with various aspects of this.
I haven't done many posts on here for a while as I was very cheesed off with the shit hacker person who deleted all the photo's years ago. I still have them but it will take some time to repost them with the descriptions.
This site needs more internet security (http address etc) as it is still prone to the same thing happening again.
I have talked to Matt S about this and others but, so far, there doesn't seem to be a solution as this SSL site can't just be transferred/coped across into a different website platform it seems, unless someone knows differently .........?

I had the pleasure to refurbish a 16 channel SSL stereo side car expander that Alan designed in the 90's. It was originally installed in a 6048E at Metropolis studios. A one of a kind masterpiece in engineering.
Recently I have been fully engaged on refurbishing equipment salvaged from a studio fire here (Headgap). Their main console was a Neotek Elite. The design is very gangster, and makes you appreciate how good the design is on an SSL, and how they made it so easy to service. The Neotek is far from friendly.
