Hi again. Console has been in storage for over 15 months and about to look to move. As stated before I’ve been working on channels cleaning and refurbishing switches etc…. I picked up the console with the channels seperated and wrapped in plastic storage containers. 3-4 per container. Should I keep them that way for move or placie them back into console to save space on truck. Thanks !

Yes . Thanks. I was just thinking of saving space and I’ve seen videos of them always being moved with channels in. Safe to say I already answered my own ??

Moving large mixers with modules in them is a recipe for disaster. The modules can move and damage themselves. Break connectors etc. Plus the weight makes the frame harder to move.

We've always moved consoles including heavy SSL 9J & K consoles with the modules screwed in, as to not warp/bend the console frame. Unfortunately, it is heavier. Lots of "fun" trying to take the legs off of a SSL 4K console. Hopefully it doesn't have to be split. Sometimes the patchbay is hard wired to the console. like one of ares is.

Like Dave, I have moved dozens of desks on their backs with the modules in them. It adds to the structural integrity of the frame and profiles. You can get the desk on the truck on its back, get the modules into the buckets and then strap it all down. If you need to you can remove the modules when you arrive at the destination and move the frame thats fine. Takes more time but is much safer. If you are transporting on its back I recommend two long 2x4s, one across the meter bridge and one across the fader buckets where the bolster goes. This helps spread out the pressure from the ratchet straps. The movement of the frame in vehicle transport is what causes it to twist and bend mostly, all that weight constantly shifting around. Modules help mitigate the flex.

I tansported it last year with channels out and it’s been resting on its back in storage since then . All this talk about bending and warping has me thinking. I think I will leave them out since it’s been like that for the last year and a half and hopefully it’s hasn’t been damaged. It was on two dollys but now I have built a solid platform for the back to sit on for the next move. K thanks everyone 👍👍

I've done both, but with the channels out, and the console detached from the main RHS steel rails, the aluminium frame is not structurally rigid and can take a lot of torsion.
Only transport it with the channels out if it is still connected to the RHS rails.
