Title: SSL 4000 G+ — No Return on Channels 1–2 During Record Status
Post by: gollito on August 26, 2026, 06:21:57 PM
Hi to all friends ..

I’m troubleshooting a strange issue on my SSL 4000 G+. Channels 1–2 record normally and the input signal is present on the meters, but when the console is in Record Status, there is no DAW/tape return on channels 1–2. As soon as I stop recording and go to playback, the return on 1–2 works normally.

I have completely bypassed/cleared the patchbay and reset the relevant routing. I also tested the Pro Tools outputs directly: all output pairs (3–4, 5–6, 7–8, etc.) return correctly to the console, while 1–2 behave differently. However, the physical Pro Tools outputs 1–2 themselves are confirmed to be working, because when I use them during playback the console receives and reproduces the signal normally.

I also tested with Fader Reverse OFF, with exactly the same result. Most importantly, I swapped the channel strip from position 26 into position 1, and the problem remained at physical position 1. The original channel 26 works normally in its own position. So the fault does not appear to follow the channel strip.

At this point I’m wondering whether this could be related to the Record Status / tape-return switching circuitry associated with positions 1–2, rather than the channel modules themselves. My technician has suggested that a status circuit/status chip could potentially be involved. Has anyone experienced a similar fault on a G+ or has any insight into which circuitry I should investigate next?
