This can be done with linear guide rail for "CNC", simple and very strong...    8)

Most useful on a really big console, and you can take your nearfields down to the drum end!

I've just seen the video of moving speakers and guess what, there was a motorised version of this type of system for the 120 channel SSL 9K Brunei console years ago and it probably still hasn't been used yet. Another example of more money than sense, groovy though it was! It creates work for engineers but the band recording in a studio with a system like this won't like the extra amount on their invoice to pay for it. The Brunei project was different though as money was not an issue.

Don't playback too loud otherwise they'll slowly drift apart from the vibration.  :P

BTW I recently bought Recording Architecture (the VERY expensive book) and there is a VERY SMALL! picture ( which I'll post later) of the brunei studio....

Hi Mattia.

The RA book apparently describes an earlier SSL console for Brunei, shipped in 1995 I think. The details I sent to you on the 120 channel 9K were for a later installation which got shipped out in early 97 and are not the same console.

I was involved in another SSL install for Enya near Dublin in Ireland in 2002 which also featured a motorised LS railway plus a motorised plasma screen which folded down from the ceiling.

Andy H (Sintech) has just left here today after buying more bits and I guess the three of us could meet up within the next few weeks to discuss this sslforum along with other SSL related topics.

I hope this clarifies things somewhat and please send me some details from the RA book as I would be interested to find out what is described.
