Title: 4K S95E video switch cable
Post by: walrus on August 15, 2013, 12:10:46 PM
I can't get at our SSL console at the moment to look, but I seem to remember that the S95E cable off of the switch panel above the small monitor has an inline IDC connector joint before it heads off to the D-con on the DL patch panel.
Can I assume that the pinout is the same as the 20 way IDC socket on the computer cage?
I need to run this cable in as at present we don't have one, and it would be much simpler to make it 20 way IDC to 20 way IDC than to try and do a 25 way D-con crimp on one end.

Hi Walrus. As far as I know, having worked there for 7 years since 1980, the SSL ribbon pinouts were standard configurations and didn't change (or were swopped over in any way). Therefore, the pinout would remain as a 1 to 1 version each time. Just bear in mind that the ribbon pinout is different to the hardwired type with only pin 1 being the same.

For example, on a ribbon connector, pin 2 would be pin 14 on a hardwired connector (pin 3 on an IDC would be pin 2 on a hardwired D and 4 would be 15). SSL generally just provided D pinouts as a ribbon configuration therefore, the user had to convert them into a hardwired pinout (confusing or what?).

Hope this helps somewhat and regards from Jim Lassen.

Thanks Jim, I hoped that would be the case. Ordered connectors today, and will pre make the cable ready for when the studio is next free.
