4k to 6k center section extender compatibility
« on: June 28, 2022, 07:53:07 PM »
I'm trying to complete my collection of extender cards and wanted to check if the 4k-6k substitute center section cards can use the same set of extenders.

For example, I'm looking at the cf82e25 card (4k) and it's replacement cf82e195 (6k).  According to my manuals they're both 65 way connectors with a keyway on pin 19.

My concerns are on the 0v, +20v, and -20v pins.  The 6k card has +20v on 61, where the 4k card does not use that pin. Does anyone know if the trace will accommodate that power on pin 61?

Also, the 4k card uses "NV" on some pins. I'm not sure what that refers to.  Other pins are labeled "spare", "not used" or "0v", so I'm not sure what "NV" would be.

Have you got that right? Pin 61 for a 4k on the 82E25 is +18V which is the main supply rail to the card.
As far as I knew, all were interchangeable from 4k / 6k.

BTW, I finally have a full set of centre section extenders coming my way.

Anthony.

Of course I haven't got that right!

Although I see where the confusion was.  Here's a scan from my physical manual since I didn't find it online.  The 65 way connector pinout actually goes up to 66.  If you look at the same connector pinout in the SL6000 manual online, it only goes up to pin 65 and the last few pins are off by 1.

I realized this once I looked at the 25 card schematic and the +18v is indeed pin 61.

Congrats on getting the full set! I actually just ordered a set myself.  May not be as fun as a new compressor etc... but it'll save hours and dozens of trips to my workbench soldering leads onto suspect cards.

I think the page in your manual has an error. Believe me, there are lots of errors in the manual schematics.

In mine the page is revision "T82E25 50.1" - down the bottom on the left. Yours is "T82E25 50". Where they have got it wrong is that Pin 61 is not "Not Used", but is actually +20V. It then follows on 62 : -20V, 63, 64, 65 : 0V.
The writer must have had their tea-break right on typing Pin 61 and lost their spot!
