Replacing mono 611E/G channel strip with stereo SL611S

Hi!
I have 48 mono channels console. Channels 1-40 are SL611E, channels 41-48 are SL611G.
I want to replace last eight channels (611G)  for stereo SL611S.
I'm curious if the connector underneath the console is the same.
If it is, what about inputs and outputs? Are inputs feed from patchbay channel and monitor inputs? (L/R) or maybe I need 8 extra input on patchbay?
What about metering? My console has palsmas. Are slot connector compatible between mono and stereo channels?
I have, let's say, mid-level electronic skills and will have no problem with rewiring if needed.
It would be lovely to have stereo inputs for automated effects return...

Make sure the console is running off of 2 SSL power supplies or a S2 Atomic power supply. 8 stereo channels draw about the same a mount of power as 24 mono channels.
I think the audio patches are the same, except the "mic" input in a line input? We use to have stereo modules, but got rid of them all. We just use mono modules now.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have two PSU units with changeover device. Do you remember when you were replacing stereo with mono modules was it necessary to messing with VCA control or setting something in computer?

That's good. I don't remember when we got arid of the stereo modules. I don't think you have change any computer settings. You still have the one main fader per channel. Maybe relabeling the stereo faders on the mix page in the computer?

You need to let the computer know that you have stereo channels, as the TR scans them differently.

If you are going to drop them in to a standard slot wired for mono, the patch bay becomes :-

Mic input (Row B) : Left Input
Line Input (Row D) : Right Input
Insert Send (Row E : Left Insert Send
Insert Return (Row F) : Left Insert Return
Group Send (Row G) : Right Insert Send
Group Monitor (Row H) : Right Insert Return

Metering can be selected to be either Left, Centre, or Sum. Both can not be shown individually at once.

I have no TR in my setup. No multiplex cards on channels and no TR card in computer. So I assume it would be easier ;-)

Hopefully, if the TR cards were removed from the channels at some point, that the jumpers under the "13" (VCA) card are in the right locations, otherwise they will need to be moved in each channel.

A less painful way to bypass the TR loop is to insert mini shunt jumpers in to the S21E header, jumping pins 14-16 and 18-20.

I do this when servicing channels, after removing the E03 multiplex card.

I will check it. But for now everything works fine and automation works perfect. I mean all channel are recognized by computer. I didn't mentioned that I have no stereo channels yet. But you've already encouraged me to find and buy them! :-)

Super hard to find stereo channels now after that youtube interview with (sorry forgotten his name), where he said the stereo compressor sounds way better than the mono channel ones.
Lucky i picked up six of them real cheap before that happened.

There are older ones with clear plastic covered stepped gain and ratio switches that fall apart and almost impossible to repair. Avoid them at all costs.
The later versions used Jeanrenaud switches (blue and white) and although obsolete, are indestructible.
