Ultimation G Series – Right-Side of console Mix Bus Issue
« on: March 31, 2025, 11:07:59 PM »
Hi everyone,

I’m troubleshooting a new issue with an Ultimation G series console that only appears when playing back from channels 25 and up (Right side of the console).
In both Record and Mix mode, mix bus Left remains completely silent, regardless of channel I'm using (25 to 48) and any settings.

The left side of the console (channels 1 to 24) show no issue!

Mix Bus Left is missing on the pre-VCA mix bus outputs, suggesting that something is dragging down the bus and the problem is not the VCA at all.

After some testing, I found that power cycling bucket 33–40 temporarily resolves the problem, while cycling other buckets on the right side has no effect. This leads me to believe that one of the channels in this bucket is intermittently shorting the bus, causing it to fail after several hours of use.

The challenge is that this issue only surfaces 4–5 hours after the power cycle. I’d really appreciate any suggestions on what could be causing this.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Possibly cable S5E which plugs in to the back plane of 25 onwards.
Might have come loose or needs a clean.

This cable plugs (DB25)  into the bottom of the 651 and goes to the right side of the console then goes to left left side, normally. It is just one ribbon cable.

This thread kept me sane today. Had the same issue, came here and low and behold a solution. For my console it was very unevel level between l/r on the mix bus on right side of console. Reseated S5E and issue fixed. Thank you to Horizonsound and Dave Dicson for the fix!
