Hi Walrus. As far as I know, having worked there for 7 years since 1980, the SSL ribbon pinouts were standard configurations and didn't change (or were swopped over in any way). Therefore, the pinout would remain as a 1 to 1 version each time. Just bear in mind that the ribbon pinout is different to the hardwired type with only pin 1 being the same.
For example, on a ribbon connector, pin 2 would be pin 14 on a hardwired connector (pin 3 on an IDC would be pin 2 on a hardwired D and 4 would be 15). SSL generally just provided D pinouts as a ribbon configuration therefore, the user had to convert them into a hardwired pinout (confusing or what?).
