CF82E148 - Dual Buffer/Switching Card - BBC console
« on: October 24, 2022, 07:46:20 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone have these cards in console? Mine is from BBC vehicle. When I disconnect the mini-box with these cards I can't send cue/sls signals to last 8 meters (plasmas).
There are 3 EDAC connectors at the back of the mini rack/box. Console has "AFL Submixer" which I have no idea where it is and never use it. I'd like to remove this box from my console and save a little extra space under the CRT monitor.
Does anyone have some ideas?
Cheers!

Hi,
Can you post a photo of this card? It sounds familiar, I think I might have designed it.
Thanks,

Oh gosh, I remember that rack and I remember those cards - but I can't quite remember what they were for!!! I think it was just, as you suggest, to switch those meters from normal internal desk connections to an external source. It should be reasonably easy to rewire to take them out of service, once we've worked out which wires it is...

I'll send a PM, and let's see if we can sort this out over email.

Do you know which vehicle this came out of (at least when it was made)? I'm wondering if it was the BBC Transcription Vehicle that I helped install in 1986 (I think), the "AFL submixer" sounds familiar. But we did supply other desks directly to the BBC for them to fit into vehicles.

Cheers,

Andy

I've found the circuit diagram for the '148 board. I remember it now, it was designed around the time I started at SSL (can't remember who by, pretty sure it wasn't me, might have been by Paul Lindsay who checked the issue 1 circuit) as a general purpose "do anything" card for semi-custom desks like this.

Circuit diagram attached.

For this application it's configured as two channels, each of which has two balanced inputs and one balanced output, and an incoming control line that allows each output to be switched between either of its inputs.

Really useful cards, so don't throw them away once they're removed!

Cheers,

Yes Andy, I had some of those 148 cards as well and probably sold them to Sintech (Andy Henderson) years ago although I had them here to use for my drum set up but couldn't be bothered in the end.

Andy!
Many thanks for the schematic! :-)
I will try to figure out what is the exact signal path via the mini-rack / barograph switching.
I have original BBC documentation, unfortunately there wasn't 82/148 schematic. Now I have it! Thank you!
All BBC diagrams are signed: "Transcription Recording Vehicle - TRV2"
Best!

Here's some photos I took when we installed the desk originally - really nice vehicle!

I've got your email, over the weekend I'll see if I can give any ideas to help.

Wooow!!!
That is absolutely amazing!
I showed these pictures to my wife and we were both moved!
I have attached pictures of the console taken today.
The last 8 strips have been swapped to G Series. And the main BBC meter has been replaced by quad meter with phase mater and status leds.
I have done the cosmetic treatment two weeks ago - new leather, etc...
Thank you so much for these pictures Andy!
The are outstanding!
Best!
