Routing Question **SOLVED**

Hello all! Hope everyone's new year is off to a good start. My question is in regards to patching signals from outboard mic pres into SSL channels to utilize eq/filter/comp and summing functions.
Scenario: I want to patch 2 mics from a guitar cab from outboard pres into console channels and be able to eq etc and sum to 1 track in DAW. I found a similar thread where Jim says to patch into insert return points and then route. I've tried this and for the life of me can't get it to work. What am I doing stupid? Is it master status dependent? I would be very grateful for a hand holding tutorial through exactly how to achieve this function and which buttons to press.

Patch into the insert returns, hit the insert button to activate, then the signal flow and routing is standard at this point.

Regarding Sintech's suggestion, I would add up to not forget pressing the PRE button so you can take advantage of the EQ (insert pre EQ).

I personally use other method. Since mic pres output is line level I just patch the mic pre output into the line in and source the track input to line (instead of mic).

Then what you can do is route the output of both tracks to one bus (via the routing matrix) and patch that bus into the Multi-track Send you wish (DAW A/D channel).

Both these methods make total sense now. "Hit the insert return button to activate", doh, that's what I was missing! Thanks so much gentlemen.

By coming out of the mic pre into the Insert Return,  you bypass the SSL amp and maintain the character of the outboard preamp.  Patching into the Line In on the console introduces the SSL amp,  which may be good, or bad.
