Adding VCA groups to channel strips CF82E20
« on: March 27, 2025, 01:58:48 PM »
Hi all,
after getting my cut-down 4024 installed and working (need to update the other thread) I am contemplating adding the VCA group and VCA trim functionalities to my board.
I do not have a mastersection and have just started looking into this topic.
To me it seems that the card CF82E20 should provide the desired functionality.
I would imagine it to rack up the 82E20 card with a power supply and connect it to the bus boards that hold the channels to provide the VCA voltages.
Which connector would that be on the bus board, maybe S3E (because it says VCA)?
Also I guess I must connect computer send and return on the 82E20 with each other.
Iīm then thinking of adding the respective pots and switches to the 82E20 to control the VCA voltages.
Could they be realized with simple pots and switches or would I need the VCA faders to control the groups like in the original state?

I can only find the 82E20 schematic in the G service manual, but itīs not included in the master section block schematic and I couldnīt find it anywhere else.
Would you have block schematics for the VCAs or can share some information on how itīs connected in the bigger picture?
I could get an E series 82E20 card locally, but from the pictures itīs a bit different to the G series 82020. Should the E still work with G channels?

It would already help me greatly to get the VCA trim (for all VCAs) functionality, but to get the 8 VCA groups would be the icing on the cake.

Iīd be very grateful for any information you could share.

Thanks and best,
Christian

I found more info on the big picture in the section 5 SL631E Mainframe internal wiring and connectors.
Looks like there are some more cards involved...

Sorry, please disregard my original post for now.
All the info is there in the service manual. Just didnīt see it before.
Iīll do my homework first and will write again if there are any open questions after that.

Cheers!

Hi guys,
can somebody please share the schematics for the E version of the 82E20 card?
I only see the G version in the service manual, and they seem to be quite different.
The E card is one I could get in my area, but before I commit Iīd like to make sure ithas everything I need for the project.
Thanks!
